The Basilone & Corsairs are no longer a part of the Federation and have been marked as traitors.

On January 21st, 2301, the Basilone & the Corsairs were tasked with responding to an invasion on Hathor, their home planet. Following two days of the fiercest fighting the Corsairs had ever seen, the Federation gave the order to retreat - but when the Corsairs got to the landing boat, they were told by Command to leave behind their caravan of hundreds of Outer Gativian refugees whom the Corsairs had rescued earlier and all but their fighting fit. Captain Sorrenson, facing a particularly belligerent Colonel, declined to follow those particular orders. Within short order a gun battle took place: the Colonel lost; Captain Sorrenson, Sergeant Mgabi, Sergeant Keymeulen, and the Corsairs won.

No good deed goes unpunished, and the Federation has interpreted this to be an act of clear, incontrovertible and egregious mutiny. They have labelled us traitors to the Federation, and have pledged to pursue us to the edge of the galaxy in order to see that we hang. Not even the crew of the Basilone have escaped their scorn, as they have been marked equal accomplices for agreeing to rescue their Corsairs in the first place.

Moving forward, the crew of the Basilone and the Corsairs are going to have to work out what they're going to do with their newfound independence: are they going to follow in the footsteps of The Black Cross, acting as an unofficial military to the often neglected outer colonies, or are they going to break bad and become the pirates they always pretended to be? Whatever they choose, they will still need to find a way to put dinners on the table, booze in tankards, rounds in magazines and fuel in tanks - or Captain Sorrenson may very quickly find out exactly what the term 'pirate democracy' really means.

Frequently asked questions

I want to create a new character.

Because we're no longer formally a part of the Federation, our options for recruiting new members to the unit are somewhat diminished, but broadly fall into three categories:

You are more than welcome to simply create a character from any of these backgrounds and start playing, but if you'd like to have an admin introduce them properly on a mission, reach out to the staff team in Discord and we'll be more than happy to help.

What do I do if my existing character would never defect away from the Federation?

Play your character as you see fit. So long as you are an established, non-throwaway character, what happens IC happens IC. However, should you wish to avoid killing your character, the command staff and NCO core have set a policy that anyone who wants to return to the Federation need simply only ask, and they will be dispensed at the nearest safe planet. This does mean you can't play your character until we've reached some sort of reconciliation with the Federation or unless invited to by an admin.

Does this mean we'll no longer be fighting bugs?

Hell no. Bugs are an integral part of SSTRP.

Why have we chosen to take the server in this direction?

In short, breaking away from the Federation allows us to:

You can read a full readup on why we chose this direction for the server at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bzrLUmiV-6JjbayxAbaeMbPwgWmw7REDR8CmWFCgdmk/edit.

I just want to play Mobile Infantry again.

Whilst there are plenty of opportunities for us to reconcile in one way or another with the Federation, it strikes me as unlikely that we will return to simply being a bog standard, basic unit of the M.I. this iteration as we will run into the same issues with stagnation as we did before. Should you feel strongly enough, whilst that isn't specifically our shtick for the foreseeable, please feel free to set up your own shop: hetzner.de sells cheap, excellent servers, and we typically distribute our addons freely.
