  1. TSgt. James Lerwick 27/9/97 RIP Tech. Hopefully you'll find solace wherever your spirit goes.
  2. [PLAY THESE TOGETHER] On earth, the 22nd of September signalled the coming of Autumn. On Castillo, however, the planet's seasons are much shorter and drastic, punctuated with tropical storms in the wet season and droughts in the highlands in the dry season. It was during this wet season that Rico fell under siege. On the 22nd, we were camped out on the western flank of the foothills to the Peshawar Highlands. The air was heavy with the stench of burnt plant matter. The insects that had survived the bombardments were chirping in the night, clinging to whatever was left of the ravaged jungle. The twisted metal of buildings down below the plateau was washed in a thin orange haze from the distant fires. We were taking shifts, sleeping. Our legs ached, and our muscles were tired. None of us had ever expected things to unfold the way they did, I suppose. In our tents, we could hear them. Just over the top of the ridge. The wounded that were left behind were moaning and shouting for help on the other side of the mountain. We could hear them screaming when the bugs came to finish them off. Grown men making horrible cries that made you shiver in your boots. Guys that we known for months, sometimes years. Every faint tremor underground kept you awake. Half-awake, half-asleep, ready to spring at a moments notice when the bugs would either push over the ridge, or tunnel straight through to our encampment. This was par for the course, those last few days. The past few days had been spent in the eastern quarter of Rico, repelling Arachnid offensives from the Highlands we were currently stationed on. By then, the civilians that hadn't been killed in the inital attack were long gone. You seldom forget the visceral experience of seeing a single warrior shred throngs of men, women, and children. Their lack of discrimination, their lack of mercy or hesitation. Behind those eyes, there's nothing but animalistic bloodlust. God knows I was never supposed to know what the insides of a troop of traffic cops looked like. This was supposed to be a safe place, far away from the bugs. The beaches were turned into killzones, where we had guys imapled by their ankles and dragged down under the sand. When the tide rose, water tigers would position themselves for attacks to execute when the tide receded. We held the sandbar, and managed to hold the beach in time for Fleet drop depth charges to close the underwater holes, but not without taking casualties a fair share of casualties. We had heard that the boats heading to Fort Metzinger for evac were cut open from below. Whole scores of folks were tossed into the ocean, and ripped apart right before they could've fled. Those on the eastern quarter of the city got hit the worst. By the time the planet was in a state of emergency, the majority of civilians had been evacuated further west, or to Ottokar and Wenceslaus to the north. It wasn't a clean getaway by any means. Simultaneous oordinated attacks on several highly dense points in the eastern quarter fragmented the local police, and got a lot of civilians killed. Captain Nima managed to organize a defensive line on the border of the eastern quarter; from the beachheads to the northern industrial quarter of Rico. Those first few days of pushing back and forth into the east were probably the bloodiest. Our efforts weren't in vain, however. We've stemmed the offensive, and have pushed them back to the Peshawar Highlands proper. Fleet's been hammering the range for days, but we'll have to mop up per usual. That's the way of things, here.

  4. R & R, September 2297 10/9/2297 This is my first painting after the Audie Murphy was destroyed. Had to wait for replacements to be shipped out after I ordered everything I needed. R & R was well needed, to say the least. Things've been pretty tense lately since we discovered the Neons. There's been a lot of changes, but the same old insanity to the whole scheme is still there. Even in the face of something like them, we'll still find ways to kill each other instead of them. Castillo's come under attack by bugs, and I've heard that things were really bad for the MI stationed in Rico. Often times I find myself worrying about my friends and family in Ottokar. I feel a strange humbling, slightly horrifying sensation for living through such strange and surreal times. In times like these I'm keeping my Karma in check, and doing my Dhyana. Hydroponics accommodates well for me. I end up spending a lot of time down there, trying to clear my head. I'm still waiting on the rest of my brushes and paints to come in.
  5. CASTILLO UNDER SIEGE! Airstrikes near the Madroza Wetlands Wildlife Refuge, 5 kilometers from Rico The presence of Arachnids have been confirmed on Castillo, a planet in the Zeta Sagittarii system with a population 25.7 million people. The Rico Police Department were initially mobilized to respond to reports of a shipping freighter being shot down by what appeared to be a plasma bug, but were quickly overwhelmed by a sudden Arachnid attack, resulting in 122 officers killed. As of the early hours of the morning on September 8th, local garrisons of Mobile Infantry have been engaging Arachnids emerging from the mountains near one of the planet's most populated cities, Rico. The evacuation order had been given, and the MI were to hold off the bugs for as long as they could while civilians and citizens would be evacuated at several points outside the city, one of them being Fort Metzinger, a fortified island 19 kilometers from the shore. Fighting in Rico's tight streets proved deadly for many brave soldiers of the Mobile Infantry. Currently, it is estimated 2,000 MI were killed in action, with hundreds more wounded. The planetary governor of Castillo, retired Fleet Captain, David Black, has declared a state of emergency, ensuring that the Arachnid incursion would be "...dealt with swiftly, tactfully, and with great resolve." Governor Black has issued a rallying cry for the disaffected from Rico, and calls for unity throughout Castillo after the events of the past 36 hours. Fleet researchers predict that Arachnids initially inserted in the early Spring of 2296 near the Shapley Mountains, directly east and northeast from Rico. During the meteor shower that lasted from February 12 to May 2, the Arachnids could've entered unnoticed, and tunneled into the mountains. Rico was also assaulted from its iconic waterfront, and many of the volunteer vessels ferrying civilians to Fort Metzinger were destroyed before they could reach the island. The disaffected of Rico have fled to the nearby civic centers of Wenceslaus and Ottokar, with hundreds of shelters and disaster centers opened to accommodate the estimated 2,374,028 civilians fleeing from the destruction. CITIZENS & CIVILIANS WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you have knowledge in the following fields: -Public Health -Intensive Care -General Surgery -General Practice -Nursing -Disaster Relief -Emergency Services Your assistance is needed in the relief effort for Castillo! Contact your nearest Mobile Infantry or Fleet recruitment center and ask about how YOU can VOLUNTEER TO HELP CASTILLO!
  6. this is why you continue to get PK'd, having seen all of the ones mentioned first hand. your character's judgement or lack thereof is why you've found yourself frequently creating new characters. for the first one, your character had been shot in both shoulders, and you insisted on sneaking all alone into a building with than sol. no amount of rolling is going to save you from a decision like that. for the second, strauss failed to clear the roof/ maintain situational awareness, and placed himself on a very precarious edge at the end of the roof. this decision was exploited by whoever was playing the separatist that kicked you off. for the third, if you're handling an objective with HVT's that you need to keep alive, it's not a good idea to fire a HEDP or HEAT round into a room that you haven't cleared, as exactly what happened to O'Hanrahan happens. for the fourth, you can read what deckers said. listen to @TheCursedJester

  9. Sgt. Travis Young 25/8/97 Notes: I guess word is getting around that I can paint, so I've been getting approached lately for portraits, including by one of my sergeants. I must've not realized it, but this guy's pretty damn tall when you're standing right next to him. He's got that soldier's physique, too. Reminds me of the shredded dudes that they would bring in for that figure drawing course I took a couple summers ago back home. Young seems like a cool guy, hopefully he'll enjoy the finished product.
  10. not anytime soon, that's for sure. perhaps some dev company down the road will be reminded of the game's impact and legacy, and they will try and reboot the IP. Epistle 3 sounds like a decent script, and hopefully they follow it instead of doing something completely different.
  11. So, this has been irking me for a while and I feel prompted to post something about it: people playing music through stream radio, usually on the dropship. "But Orwell, why the hell do you give a shit about music on the dropship? People have played music in the past, what's the problem? Are you some gay retard or something?" I can explain. "My taste in music is good, don't worry." I'm sure it is, but that's not the issue. Stream radios, like everything else you see on the server, are supposed to be IC at all times. The person who ICly has control of music being played inside the dropship is the pilot. OOCly it's either up to the event runner or to whoever fancies to pilot a dropship on Fleet. Unless your character made the decision to ICly bring a speaker, there's no reason that they'd be ICly playing music for the dropship. "Why do you hate fun?" So, one of the big (arguably biggest) parts of running missions on SSTRP is tone, the atmosphere and the immersive experience of a deployment. One of the most tried and true methods to set a certain tone is through viscera of MUSIC. Sometimes, when admins are trying to establish the tone of a mission, it can be contradictory to the tone of the drop to have Spice Girls playing in the dropship wo/ the event runner consenting. Usually they're noclipping around spawning shit and setting things up after they spawn in the dropship, and aren't keeping a keen eye on the interior of the boat. "Why did you make me read this?" You're right, music has been played in the past on dropships, and will continue to play in the future. I'm only asking that you /report asking about it before a stream radio gets spawned in. Admins might have something in store for the drop, and they'd probably be privy to this information. I figure most admins might not give a fuck either way, but at least /report it. Really, the stream radios being IC extends beyond the dropship and to the Audie as well, in the same vein as "don't asspull things." right, that's it

  14. タコ様 7/8/97 Notes: Not pictured: his biotechs. I've got no idea how long he's been in this business, but I suspect it's a while. I feel as though we share similar struggles because of our hairstyle choices.
  15. My View 6/8/97 Notes: Figures I'd get wounded on one of my first drops with the 112th. I was screaming and hollering in that blizzard. Bugs fight just as fiercely in a blizzard as they do in the desert; motherfuckers certainly are much more durable than us. One talon through the foot and I'm out of commission.
  16. Chariot 6/8/97 Notes: Saw one of these today. Got stabbed through the foot, will be med bay bound for a while undergoing treatment.
  17. 'Turquoise Gas' 4/8/97 Notes: We passed by this gas giant we didn't know the name of, and I thought it looked pretty cool. How many of the original masters would've killed for the opportunity to see heavenly bodies like this from this vantage? Had to do them justice, take advantage of what I've got.
  18. SgtMaj. Wauri Matene 3/8/97 Notes: Matene scares me.
  19. MSgt. Eleanor Tuuli 3/8/97 Notes: Felt like going abstract with this one. I occasionally see her and other purple-hats wandering around the ship. Their thoughts, their ponderings.. it excites me!
