Backstory:

 

DeVries was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to Daniel and Sydney DeVries. His household was rather poor, so DeVries struggled to make do when he was a kid. When he graduated high school, he went to a trade school to learn how to weld.

 

During his internship, he spent his spare time in his father's auto shop, tinkering and taking apart cars and motorcycles. He eventually was hired by his father, and never finished his welding apprenticeship. He spent most of his time working for his father's shop for about six years before his father retired, handing the shop down to him. DeVries had the business to himself for about a year, before he decided he didn't like owning a business. He sold the building and enlisted in the Mobile Infantry.

 

Personality:

 

DeVries is a down-to-earth, no bullshit kind of man. He doesn't like being overly formal, he thinks a curt nod and a "yes sir, no sir" should suffice for an officer. DeVries doesn't seek out conflict with others, but he will tell people what he thinks about them, whether they like it or not. DeVries is usually a calm, collected trooper, unless he is being interrupted during his free-time, when he's concentrating, or when he doesn't want to be bothered - then he gets angry. DeVries enjoys tinkering and working with mechanical objects, like engines or weapons. However, whether it be lack of intelligence or stubbornness, DeVries lacks the same drive to work with computers or electrical systems.
