Fleet suggestions/criticisms thread

It's not a secret that Fleet as a faction has become stale over the years. The roleplay is stagnant and almost non-existent. So, with that in mind, we're asking for your suggestions and criticisms.

  • What do you want to see from Fleet as a faction?
  • What do you think we could do to improve Fleet roleplay?
  • How, as admins, do you think we could cater to Fleet more?

All suggestions and criticisms are welcomed as long as they are serious. Deckers and I want to get Fleet to work, but we need your help with that. You're the players. We're here to make your experiences enjoyable at the end of the day.

some of the admins have done a really great job of incorporating TAC into events by doing events on the second server prior to the main MI event. i think it should be entirely possible to loop fleet in on main server and have them take us into orbit of the planet, and blast away any major air support or orbital obstacles like asteroid fields.

fleet is is heavy rp, give them something to rp.

Yeah with larger scale battles TAC is used quite a bit and admins that run it do a decent job.

Bridge crew however, our RP is quite limited in terms of what we do. We don't really need to change server to rp. Most we would need is a more 'populated' skybox. Whether its other ships, A space station/depot or even an asteroid field. Granted some skyboxes would require some prop packs for the full experience.

Another ideal suggestion is when there's enough Fleet on which there is from time to time. Put out a random /ev see how the playerbase reacts to the event. This would be more suited for internal issues onboard the Grant. We spend a lot of time in space, quite a lot of it is uncharted. have random space anomalies occur.

Few ideas to just throw out there:

  • Refueling at stations
  • random ship encounters Friend/foe
  • Black outs across the ship
  • Asteroid fields
  • New planet/solar system discoveries
  • Deep space mysteries e.g random debris from an old federal starship drifting in space.
  • Possible post sep mission. When the MI return to the Grant. Sep starship enters the AO and Grant fights it which would tie into random ship encounters.

The possibilities are endless as space is vast. Anything can happen heh.

Also a note more for event runners, please remember that the Grant does actually have sensors that can read planetside so running away is kinda difficult, considering the high-tech armed satellite orbitting the planet

Unless you mean running away on-planet while obscured by clouds and bad weather, or perhaps if the Grant is preoccupied with enemies of their own.

^ mostly saying this so your stories make logical sense, since how would a dropship fly off the planet without the Grant knowing about it?

Also, another way to incorporate Fleet into events (mostly pre-event) is to obviously have Helms slipspace us to the destination, but also to use Warfare to scout out the AO while admins prepare, and Warfare will forward their findings (done through RP and /reports, which event admin will respond to with 'you see this there and that') to Intel, who then uses said findings to brief the infantry.

You could for example determine how much information the MI has going down depending on how thorough the Warfare stationeer did his/her job. Doesn't have to be anything major of course.

With how we're currently operating on the server, it seems like it would be a good idea to make an actual report log for any major events or engagements the Upham partakes in, almost like an MI after-action report, but more-so focused on what supplies we used, in what volume, and any damages the ship took, or any components that was lost. Of course, it'd be kept simple, so there wouldn't be anyone putting off writing up reports for whatever reason. Quick format I thought of below:

Example Format:

Spoiler

Engagement or event synopsis:

Munitions used:

Damage received:

Hostiles destroyed:

Crew wounds:

Crew on duty

Command:

Weapons:

Warfare:

Navigation:

Example Use:

Spoiler

Engagement or event synopsis:

The Charles Upham was ambushed and engaged after dropping from FTL around the orbit of Planetoid Example Name 1, by two pirate frigates, which opened fire without communication. Evasive action was taken as the Upham's own weapon systems were brought online and to target both opposing vessels. Both hostile vessels were destroyed, without any life pods deployed, and no viable salvage from either.

Munitions used:

'Firestorm' Missles:

Tube 4: x3 HECWM missiles fired

Tube 5: x3 HECWM missiles fired

Tube 7: x3 ASAP missiles fired

Tube 8: x2 ASAP missiles fired

'Trip Eight' Guns:

x6 Bow-mount cannons used - approx. 5 minutes fire time - 5000 HEAF rounds expended

Damage received:

x2 confirmed torpedo strikes to starboard bow superstructure:

x10 gas maneuvering thrusters destroyed

x4 gas maneuvering thrusters damaged (repairable)

x1 'Durendall' scanner damaged (repairable)

Hostiles destroyed:

x2 Frigate-sized vessels (classification unknown)

Crew wounds:

No crew wounds sustained in combat.

Crew on duty

Command: Ens. Joe Shmoe

Weapons: PO2. Rangi Setu

Warfare: OCdt. Alvaro Lupinacci

Navigation: OCdt. Roskana Nejem

If this does get put in place, it would require more involvement from event runners when it comes to anything done with the ship, and the Fleet in general, but I believe it would also lead to far more RP for post-combat, and serving as an actual record for the crew to track their engagements, along with keeping stock on what the Upham actually has, since we don't have the liberty of simply going to a Federal station to get resupplied.

More Passive RP while on the ship. Instead of simply waiting for events to happen with the Fleet give a reason to have a active showing on fleet chars instead of the officers who main Fleet. In the same vain... Make engineering more interesting? No one enjoys being the last on bridge and being told "You have Engineering" becase thats a event where they get no real RP past "I reset the power to x instead of y". It says in the information that Engineering isn't glamorous but is important. Show that! Have the engineering pannel have some sort of important role in damage control, where to send supplies and damage crews or even affect weather or not other actions work. So instead of when someone sets the engines to minimum and the next emote is Helms pumping the gas going full tilt limit what can be done. Just my ten cents.
