Backstory: Born into the Lupinacci Family who have a proud history of service the family had moved to Hesperus as part of the colonisation effort in the first wave and being Italian the family was stereotypically large embedded deeply in the process of building the shipyards they are far from the poorest, Alvaro has benefitted from this wealth in his education and prospects, raised on the fruit of high society he knows his way around a charity event, vineyard, orchestra and even a Yoga mat to name a few. The family is a large one even outside of his numerous siblings and before he was even in high school he would assist in his mother's Private Medical Practise wherein he became acquainted with the vigour of good charisma and people skills as he met her highly affluent clientele and learned to talk to such people regularly. Being so worry free meant he could focus easily on schooling and he emerged from high school with an immense Grade Sheet which would carry him into University where he would study Maths, Mechanics and Physics and while there he lived as any other student parties, sex and studies.

His enlistment into the Fleet after University was a late decision of his own making, originally planning to not find himself on any kind of star ship but rather the Starside Research and Development track, his Father on a rare visit home took his son into his confidence about his aspirations to the office of Sky Marshall and while Alvaro's elder brother Calvo was a prospective for command of their own ship he did not think he had the talent for it. It was closer to a command than fatherly advice by his father but Alvaro was told to enlist as a standard Fleetsman, and work his way up. The work ethics of their long family history being what they were, a man didn't get to boast about anything he did not earn and so Alvaro enlisted the very next day, unwilling to reveal the "orders" or speak of his Father's aspirations to his peers Alvaro comes across as the Italian Prince out of his element. And in many ways he is, but his eyes are firmly planted on command, to the Hesparans family is everything.

Personal Notes/Journal Entries

Spoiler

I must seek out Captain Nyman's family -

- The Captain, before we lost the Grant was supportive to me in a time I was struggling with my station on the bridge after dealing out death to thousands. I asked to speak with him and he was considerate, kind and yet firm in his position. It was exactly what I needed to hear and in that moment he showed me a picture of his family that has been etched into my mind ever since. I have to find them, I will find them they need to know that the Captain died so that the rest of us may live, I want them to be proud, I want them to know I will dedicate my life to his principles and memory I want to be there for his children and his widow... I can't leave this alone. I MUST find them. First we must clear our names and Oritz must pay...Nyman's sullied memory will be expunged.

The Nejem dilemma -

- Roskana Nejem has long been a source of concern for me, a part of my mind when we first met fell for her and strained after her...but I was given false hope in the form of her opening herself up. She is a wholesome and almost predictable woman now, where in the first days we knew each other her kindness was muted and everything she did was driven forward and focused. Over time though and through the stresses and rigours the opportunity I might have had I failed to deliver on, I might have made her happy, might have made her better if only I wasn't so scared of screwing up and driving her away. I distanced myself and made a mistake that cost me any future I might have had with her and drove her into a relationship that was just full of problems from the start. She shall remain my greatest regret in life, my greatest failure. And when she leaves us - my greatest loss.

I have found love, or it's poetic equivalent-

- Carson Sawyer; what started as a curious interest when I first met her upon the Grant's bridge quickly evolved to a friendship underpinned with sheer sexual energy. She drew me in with her attitude to life, her boldness and of course her unique ability to render me in surprise. We were just filling in a void at first, meaningless sex, albeit enjoyable and I was contented with that much. But over time she became more clingy, asked me to sleep in the same bed a few times and eventually it grew to something much more vivid...life changing. I once thought love the cancer to a healthy mind...and I suppose I do in some cases still think that when I look at what it's done to men like Holtz, Oakwood and Okazaki. But between myself and Sawyer...while cautious at first I think a part of me had fallen for her on the Zion. - And giving me the XO position? I needed no further affirmation that something was twisting her mind beyond any mental affliction. She would never turn it down to favour me unless something was different and I have never been given anything so precious in my life. I didn't think I would ever find it...but it found me in the form of mon ange argente...my Carson.

The closing weeks -

- I sense the end of our current chapter fast approaches. The Grant going down, Datana, the Zion...the plethora of questionable acts committed in the name of survival, Karrus, taking the Constantinople...Pallas...it has become so ingrained in my day-to-day that this is the life we lead that I wonder if returning to the Federation will be an easy task. We have lived on a knife's edge for months now always wondering if the next day - the next mission will bring us closer to salvation or doom us further. I keep these thoughts to myself, they are not the kind I would like to share with anyone under my command or in my care, I can't afford to look weak where Nash or Sawyer might fail, I - I must be resolute.

The Logged "Disavowing" of Alvaro Lupinacci, by Rear Admiral Alvo Lupinacci of the 5th Battlegroup. Leaked to the public by Dissenters.

  Hide contents

"Admiral - Thank you for joining us today." The FedNet Journalist said sitting opposite a silver haired man with a stern uncompromising scowl, who nodded.

"A pleasure to answer your call." The man dressed in the white of the Federation Admiralty and decorated with ribbons had his hands interlocked on his lap.

"Now - with the war on Bugs in it's early stages and victory on the horizon. Many of our Citizens have asked for insights into the character of the ones responsible for starting the war." The journalist referred directly to the camera. "The traitorous 112th Moritas and the crew of the UCF Ulysses S Grant." Then looking back at the Admiral with a softened smile. "Do you have any comments?"

"Those responsible for this war are defamed, debased and strikingly irresponsible individuals." The Admiral said plainly.

"The 112th and the crew of the UCF Ulysses S Grant." The Journalist said scowling at the camera, then looking back at the Admiral who barely moved.

"Those responsible for this war were gung-ho and did not think of the casualties they might face in the event of an Arachnid offensive. We have all of us seen the effects on Tango Urilla, those responsible should be wary of themselves for they will be found eventually."

"Do you think the war shall be impeded by Federation attempts to hunt down the traitors responsible?" The journalist asked with a squint.

"No, I do not believe so. As important as finding the remnants of the UCF Ulysses S Grant is, the Federation's reach is wide and a simple war with the Arachnids will hardly throw us into disarray." The Admiral said, staring blankly at the Journalist who smiled.

"So you affirm the standpoint of the masses that this war is very much winnable?"

"I do. Though I will remark that the Arachnid offensive was unexpected, the Fleet and it's Infantry will stand as humanities rapier, in parry and then riposte." The Admiral said nodding at the end of his statement.

"Bravo sir. Bra-vo." The Journalist smiled and presented a row of striking white teeth that clashed with his orange complexion. "Now with that out of the way, I believe, if our records are correct your own son was a member of the Grant's crew, first under Captain Winters, then Captain Nyman -"

The Admiral visibly shifted in place and his scowl turned into a sneer.

"- Are you quite alright sir?" The Journalist asked with feigned concern to which the Admiral nodded the Journalist referred to their notes and then looked up.

"Former Petty Officer Second Class Alvaro Lupinacci, your...third child?" The Journalist asked.

"Fourth." The Admiral began. "He was born after his twin sister."

"Ah - yes. Former Petty Officer Lupinacci your -fourth- child. Quite the stain on the family service record isn't it?"

"A stain." The Admiral parroted.

"Can you think of any reason that he would abandon the Federation in pursuit of jovial war-mongering?" The Journalist asked.

"I cannot." The Admiral replied.

"And yet he did?"

"And yet he did."

"Doesn't such a thing warrant scrutiny? You are after all a serving member of the Fleet with a distinguished record of meritorious service, and yet you could not foresee the insurgent thoughts of your own child?" The Journalist feigned a perplexed expression and leaned back in their seat.

"Do you have children?" Asked the Admiral.

"I...don't quite see how that relates to my question."

"Humour me." The Admiral responded without a smile.

"I do not sir."

"You do not." The Admiral affirmed. "So, in light of that I shall inform you, a child is their own being moulded by their parents but are ultimately their own beings. They can be guided, they can be corrected but their minds will be as unknown to their sires and your mind is unknown to me. So - with that in mind I shall reiterate that I cannot think of a reason my son would turn traitor."

"Interesting sir, for there is a means by which you might have known your sons mind, were you so dutiful as you say. His twin sister, she is Psychic yes?"

The Admirals brow twitched.

"Could you not have had her read your son's mind to find his based thoughts of treason before they happened?"

"How could I suspect such things of a teenager?"

"So it was lack of foresight? Quite the crux in the makings of someone we are supposed to trust with our defence in this time of turmoil." The Journalist said turning to the camera on that last point, then looking back.

"A lack of foresight..." The Admiral said casting his blue eyes downward.

"You agree this was a treason of your own making?" The Journalist jabbed.

The Admiral reached over eyes fixed on the journalist and taking a glass of water, drinking it slowly without taking his eyes off of the man opposite him, the mic on his lapel even picking up his sips which he held for a good ten full-blooded seconds before finally putting down the glass, the Journalist entranced by the gesture.

"I do not agree that it was a treason of my own making, what I shall agree though, is that my son and all of my children follow the orders they are given, beyond that they try to improve upon them through intuition and forethought." Reclining back in the seat he lifted his right hand from his lap and was passed a sheet of printed paper from an unknown person, and flattening it out looked down upon it.

"What is that sir?" the Journalist asked with a look of annoyance.

"A report, from the UCF Ulysses S Grant before she was destroyed. Detailing as much scan data as was physically possible of our new transport-caste of Arachnid. Taken from Former Petty Officer Third Class Alvaro Lupinacci on the planet of Karrus when he was arrested, stored on a drive extracted from the Grant." The Admiral stated.

The Journalist scowled.

"Foremost in any father's mind is their child's motivations, and following his orders took my son to the Arachnid Quarantine Zone, Captain Gareth Nyman would have had him shot if he did not comply, for that is the cost of insubordination as you know, yes?"

The Journalist nodded, knowingly.

"Yet, in this treason my son was able to provide us with this information. The Grant was the bullet that started this war, and those responsible for loading the gun will see their day on the gallows." The Admiral said turning around the paper, images and scans of the Transport Bugs noted including the timestamp and identification number of Alvaro Lupinacci which he showed to the camera, and then folded away looking at the journalist whose mouth was agape, a picture that held for a few moments before the Federal Logo appeared and expressed Technical Difficulties.

Alvaro’s reaction to just about anything in relation to Fleet - Infantry Tension

Key: I haven't the words | Qualcuno che è fidato | Respected | Friendly | Acquaintance | Uncertainty | Disliked/Avoided | Figlio Di Puttana

Federation Fleet and TAC

Spoiler

Jeremy Nash - Forthright Officer - Nash has been my boss for as long as I can remember, my supervisor and while our professional relationship is far from the most traditional  historically what with our ship being shot down a few weeks into my service and basically living to survive Nash has been at the forefront of most efforts to keep us going and I've never contradicted the man. We needed an officer and where Khan wasn't present he would step in. I'll admit I find it hard to nail down Nash as a person, we have a joke and his years of experience far surpass my own indeed I make every effort to impress him when I can. I didn't expect him to make me his XO. Saying that I didn't expect Carson to turn down the job either, both have placed immense faith in me and I will not let them down. But I am coming for your job old man, you mark my words.

Rangi Setu - The Stoic - It has been a rocky road between Setu and myself, the two of us started out as polar opposites, I was arrogant and he was too in his own way. Each of us thought we knew better than the other but over time and a few near-death experiences we have grown closer because it turns out under the surface we are very similar men, but for different reasons. It's not the traditional friendship but I know Setu would never betray my confidence and I can appreciate that greatly.

Paul Imperius - You're here because...? - Imperius is something of an anomaly, while he has served before like Setu he goes a step further in having served with Nash on a ship called the Sephton that I've never heard nor seen. He's easily over ten years older than me but he's scrubbing the basic ranks? I'm going to have to ask him more about his service, if my hunch is right I think I can learn a lot from him.

Lisa White - A newer acquaintance of mine personally but everyone appears to know her, Ajax is besotted with her and I can see why; she is a true beauty. Though we have had not much cause to speak, indeed our first meeting was on the Zion I look forward to being on friendly terms with yet another pilot.

Jill Nichols - I have to say despite her super model appearance the Yeoman isn't often found in the light of day, a great pity as I can think of about twenty separate men whose days would be made brighter by her just...standing around. Her hair is the length of her spine and apparently the product of her own care, which I must admit is impressive. But other than that she's...rather blunt, she seems to have plenty to say but won't say it without prompting and trying to get her opinion on things that might illicit words of grandeur and poetry are met with simple uninterested remarks. I have to assume she's a hard worker, so hard working that we never really see her.

Mobile Infantry

Spoiler

Aaron Holtz - The Patriarch - What vehement dislike for me this man harbours now, he is a leader broken by his humanity and unfortunately I fear I might follow suit should I lose the one I cherish such as he as done. In my many talks with him on a level of social advice I learned two very simple things; his thought process is cyclical and he cannot live without the arms of another wrapped around him. To call him soft would be cruel, but to call him stoic would be misrepresentation.

Rodrick Oakwood - The Buccaneer- The most stand-out thing I can right about him right now is that he messed up with Donovan, the two of them were almost fairy-tale and I expected things to last; alas they did not and Oakwood has fallen into the trap of changing to fit his role rather than making the role fit him that so many have fallen into. A shame really, he was a good man, now he's just a man. He preaches the side of moral good but underneath I can tell his pain is driving him - none should rely on pain for fuel.

James Victory - The Undefeated - While I haven't spoken with him much the man plays the piano extremely well and we took the time to play together at one point. He seems like a nice man so I will find time to get to know him a little better.

Sebastian Bently - The Leader? - Bently's poor grasp on the reality we find ourselves in has me questioning his ability to lead, I have voiced these concerns to the command staff and some more senior members aboard and they tend to agree with me that the man can no longer rule through tyranny lest he find his temper tantrums are his only shield to a Morita barrel.

Mobile Infantry Medical Detachment

Spoiler

Francis Ramsey - The Good Timer - Ramsey is a morale buffer for everyone here, he's...not bright but that doesn't even matter he's so pleasant to be around. He's all anecdotes and misunderstandings that never fail to bring a smile to my own and others faces. He's a joker and friend to many and were he to be... I shall not even think about such things, in a time of great uncertainty Ramsey is the constant, the one you can rely on to lift everyone's spirits with food, conversation or just being himself. He is a good man though if I said that to him he'd probably say I miss gendered him and that he identified as a Pick-Up Truck just for the sake of another laugh.

Seamus Leeds - I think we've met? He's the Scottish one...the medic? Ah yes! The friend of O'Dweyr, the enforcer of the "law" or something. I don't know much about this man which is a shortcoming on my part, I shall have to make an effort to seek him out for a proper conversation.

Mobile Infantry Engineering Detachment

Spoiler

James Reacher - The Lad - It's safe to call Reacher one of my oldest and best friends among the Mobile Infantry, I trust him implicitly with secrets, weaknesses and the deeper conversations. I was his first contact on the Grant and served him his first beer, and ever since we have been firm friends, he is a capable man and his work ethic will see him go far; also I am glad he has found someone to share life with I could not be happier for you my friend.

Cait Donovan - The Free Spirit - I genuinely adore Donovan, unafraid to speak her mind and always in a-good of spirits as life shall let her be. Her recent break up with Oakwood was something I encouraged, seeing her sad...uncertain? A relationship should not be something that changes you, ever. And I cared about her enough to tell her that much. She listened to me and now even seems quite content in life, given our newfound freedom well earned I can imagine she will stick to her guns and see it through to citizenship. But for now she is here, with me on the vessel and we shall laugh together until the day we must part.

Greg - The Gentle Giant - Greg is the kind of man you'd see as a bouncer to your local club or bar and wonder if you feel like drinking. He's a good six-ten and built like a tractor while I'm more like a Vespa. But under it all he's a kind and gentle soul who have more love in his heart than a child and a moral code of oblique good and bad. He's a good man if not slightly ill fitted to military service given his...disabilities. The Infantry love him and he's known well among the Fleet, I myself always make sure to say hello to him, his responses and idle chatter always make my day.

Naomi Reel - The Lewd - Reel is my favourite kind of person, sordid thoughts expressed by an unblushing mouth consistently and often. Reel is something of a staple for happy go lucky when it comes to things and I can't state enough how much I appreciate people like her. More so than this she works hard and voluntarily, which I respect. Very few people in general are willing to pick up the slack even as a favour. She also fancies me, flattered of course! And were I not with Carson? Well that's not the way things are, she is lovely of course and any man, or woman would be lucky to have her in their life.

Alessandro Noviello - Fratello Mio - Back with the Engineers is my culture brother. Alessandro is one of my oldest friends among this crew, and the two of us in a team I wager in a mixer would clean out the house. He's a good man, good solider and he and I unlike many understand each other on an almost kindred level. While my own career has taken off he has never really moved out of his spot, I don't think he's regretful for it and that alone speaks leagues to his credit. He's a charming and wholesome man and will always have my ear, my table and my home at his disposal. No man should walk through life alone.

13th Marauder Detachment

Spoiler

Ajax Drivas - The Rock - I shall say this for Drivas, he's fiercely loyal and driven. To a point of annoyance with myself and others that every time he begins to lecture you on morality and life you just want to slap him...mostly because he doesn't stop talking it's like his voice box is leaking with the amount he comes out with. But he's who he is, and while I didn't appreciate his advice because he was misinformed when he gave it he is my brother. My family, like everyone who came from the Grant.

The Fallen, Missing and Departed

Spoiler

Carson LupinacciMon ange argenté - Feeling of love evaded me for most of my life, I lead an existence of meaningless flirtation and baseless escapades. But through Carson I was allowed to love, moreso to learn to love but irrespective of semantics I can love, and I love her. While she walks her path anew I shall walk mine and return to each other to live out the sunsets and autumnal air together. My silver angel, my wife, my Carson. Ti amo.

Grace Corbin - The Doctor - Grace was...I suppose, discharged from the Grant just before we lost it, a great tragedy to the crew I can feel it in the air they are lesser for her loss and given how we now live I must wonder if her presence would be what tipped morale into a favourable light. Buona fortuna.

Captain Nyman - The Leader, the Martyr- I shall live my life to become the man you were, the Captain you were and if needs be the martyr you were sir. You gave us our lives at the cost of your own and in every effort I make in the days ahead I shall be committed to preserving the lives of these souls you saved further. Repriosa in pace.

Cinder Linh - The Devoted - Cinder and I were not friends for long, whether she even thought of me in the same way is neither here nor there, she was a compassionate, committed and hard working woman with a heart of gold taken from this life too soon for my tastes. Rest now Linh, your watching over us all has come to it's conclusion. Repriosa in pace.

Omar Saastamoinen - The Cool - Omar departed some days ago and while we didn't really connect since Iksander Station from some reason Nejem holds that night in high esteem so I hope you are safe and that we can one day see you again. Buona fortuna.

Shane Emmett - The Quiet - Emmett was killed on Karrus, executed by the guards for - who only knows what? He was Corbin's paramour and I thought they might see each other once more, I was wrong. He was a calm, caring and collected man a very strange MIPOD Operative indeed given they tend to be a mixed bag on the social skills, he was the exception. He was with us on the night on Iksander Station in simpler more cheerful times. Repriosa in pace.

Shu-Wei Zhang - The Matron of the Crew - It saddens me greatly that Zhang and I were not on good terms when she left us. With her departure I feel like the foundation may yield, I could think of few better suited to the role of Chief of Boat despite my personal feelings on her. I think I forgave her a while ago, I simply regret having not expressed it. I hope she spends the rest of her days in a well earned peace of mind. Buona fortuna.

Oliver Stanley - The Other Giant - Stanley was a mixed bag when it came to opinions, I had no great feelings in either direction but he seemed pleasant, upstanding and forthright. Even if he didn't always come across as intelligent. Repriosa in pace.

Roskana Nejem - The Arabian Princess - It is no exaggeration to call Roskana - my "everything" - she commanded such a symbolic and tempered demeanour that would draw people toward her hoping to know the woman that lay underneath the mask. A mask she wore by her own admittance that she would eventually come to discard in the time I worked with her. She made me a better man, a better member of the Fleet for much of the time spent together I was seeking to outperform her and falling flat on most days. In the end, she fell in love first; and that was enough to give me a stride longer in our professional rivalry. I harbour many regrets Roskana, and twice that in words left unsaid that I shall take with me to my grave - you made me into the man I am today without you I would have remained an impassive, undistinguished Crewman with little drive to do anything than enjoy life's vices. Wherever you go, whatever life demands of you I shall always be there - to repay a debt whose sum total is the stars themselves. Buona fortuna.

Hecle Phan - The Chef - Phan somewhat dipped off of my radar a few months ago, with Nejem hardly being around anymore I never really saw the man who had stolen her heart with his sweet treats and culinary prowess. The last I heard or saw of him was at the departing ceremony but I remember well his time on the Grant and the Zion; the man was a pillar for many, a happy reminder that a smile could still be worn in one's darkest days and that the value of a good meal should not be understated. He retired with his fiancé I think, a short woman, shorter than even my Cari if he opens a restaurant I shall strain to find out it's name, or a bakery even. Buona fortuna.

Tumas Tankijin - The Strange One - He was the strange one, but not in a bad way. Flippant disregard for decorum and etiquette in favour of instinctive free-living attitudes and creeds. He had many hiccups while with us a service veteran of...Second Platoon I believe back on the Grant. In the end he had plenty taken from him and not enough given back, retiring when the offer came around. Buona fortuna.

Liam Attenberry - Le Frog - I have no idea where he wound up, just dropped off of the Upham one day after our talk about leaving his fancy for Ito at the door, in hindsight perhaps I ought to have encouraged him but alas he disappeared. Roskana was probably happy for your loss but I wouldn't wish death on anyone. Buona fortuna.

Jeremy Hawkins - The Killer - Hawkins gave me a positive vibe at first, a family man with no desire for sin and poetry. He however quickly became someone who would do anything when ordered too. Professionally in the Infantry that's all well and good, but I could never be certain about a man like that. He left on the same ship as Nejem, and I hope he finds his way back to his family, a citizen. Buona fortuna.

Katsuki Ito - I'm watching you - Poor you, Nejem and I are keeping in contact so I get to be your warden for the rest of your life. You aren't good enough for her and you never will be, but her being with you makes her happy so I can tolerate your existence as a means to that end but I won't ever forget what you drove her to and over something so childish at that - don't fuck up.

Rhett Stark - The Party Animal? - Sadly this young man was killed in action, he was a decent man if harbouring something of an aggressive side, but that's the Infantry for you. Repriosa in pace.

Chloe Harris - The Joy-Bunny - Losing her will be one of the more impactful losses this crew takes, her happiness and joyful approach to life was a potent means to bring a smile to anyone's faces. She will be missed greatly and I only hope life is kind to her. Buona fortuna.

Ashley O'Dweyr - The Quiet - I never did find the time to get to know her, a regretful thing to add to my list of social errors. Maybe we shall see each other again but - well it'd be nice. Buona fortuna.

Additionally, updated theme songs, added Other Media section to aid in the world building of our current circumstances and to characterise his family members some outside of the server.
