SUUzit3b4dxpqHRGoOJWYKw8WJn-k3eVaYxG1Rb2

Cadets fresh from their officers course, assigned to active duty vessels as their final exam. Promotion to officer is determined by the CO of the vessel they’re assigned. These men and women are by no means fresh or inexperienced- they’ll have a year of training at the Officer Candidate School aboard the Black Cross, as well as two years experience on a warship or space station as enlisted personnel. As Cadets, they are accorded no special consideration or privilege than an enlisted sailor, until deemed worthy by their superiors.

Their primary focus should be on learning the basics of the myriad stations onboard the bridge, so that they may fill into any role if necessary.

The first actual officer rank given to a member of the Black Cross Fleet, the Ensign (sometimes referred to as Midshipman) is the greenest of all officer ranks. They are, however, accorded the honors and considerations due any officer and are expected to conduct themselves appropriately.

The primary focus of an Ensign is to act as the standard Limited Duty Officer of the Fleet. They will be determined to be competent on at least one bridge station and willing and able to accept the orders of their superior officers. Effort should be given to continue learning the various stations and improvising their skills.

Sub-Lieutenant - SLt.

A more experienced Naval Officer, the Junior Grade Lieutenant performs most of the duties on a vessel’s bridge. The Sub-lieutenant is the mainstay of the Fleets officer corp, forming the bulk of the experienced bridge crew, being competent in at least two different stations with at least 5 combat actions under their belt.

A Sub-lieutenant's primary focus is going to revolve around maintaining their station to the best of their abilities, and mentoring those of lesser rank.

A Lieutenant is proven to be a reliable officer, and is thus accorded the associated privileges and consideration such as Restricted Line Officer status. They are likewise presented with their first officer sidearm, a sign of their trust.

The primary focus of a Lieutenant should be to oversee the conduct and training of the three lower ranks, as well as continuing their own education. A Lieutenant is expected to be increasingly competent on all stations, and a master of one specific station of their choice, as well as participate in 10 combat operations.

Lieutenant Commander - LtCdr.

The Lieutenant Commander is the highest non-command staff rank achievable, acting as the absolute cream of the crop in regards to the Fleets officer corp. An officer who has achieved this rank is supremely trusted by the command staff, having proven themselves in training, in conduct and in battle. They are to be accorded the respect due their rank, deferring only to the Commander and the Captain himself.

The primary focus of a Lieutenant Commander will be to oversee the continued training and conduct of all other bridge officers, as well as command over a specific station on the bridge. A Lieutenant Commander is expected to be a master of all stations, the authority on one in particular, and competent in a command role.

The Commander is the XO of the vessel (Sometimes referred to as Chief Mate) and oversees all deck and crew operations for the entire vessel. Second only to the Captain in authority, they are empowered to handle all matters of discipline and order, as well as oversee the training of any and all crewmates. A Commander is due the utmost amount of respect from all other officers, and his word and order is only overridden by the Captain.

The primary focus of a Commander is to oversee the functioning of the vessel on a day to day basis, as well to ensure crew readiness and skill. A Commander is the authority of all stations on a bridge, as well as a master in command.

Captain - Cpt.

The Captain is the supreme authority onboard his vessel, acting as the master and commander of the entire ship and it’s crew. His word is the word of God, and all orders are to be carried out with the utmost competence. He is to receive the respect of any and all members of the crew and is to be addressed as Captain at all times, unless specifically requested otherwise. The Captain wears a white uniform when on full duty to set him aside from the rest of the crew.

The primary focus of the Captain is to command the vessel, both at peace and at war. His focus is to be unburdened by lesser problems, minding only the use of his ship. All bridge officers follow his order, carrying them out to the best of their abilities. Additionally, in the Black Cross, Fleet Captains and their ships often operate independently from the rest of the Cross, unless a major operation is underway.

Flag Officers

Commodore - Cmdre.

The only Flag rank in the Black Cross Fleet due to the limited number of personnel, Commodores answer directly to General Halloran. They command squadrons of vessels, though these vessels primarily act independently from one another unless a major operation is underway. Although he can give commands to the Captain of the vessel, as well as any other under his command, he still defers to the Captain on matters of authority of his own ship.

The primary focus of the Commodore is to direct the vessels under his command in broader strategic tactics and manners, as well as bidding on contracts and generally finding work for the Black Cross.

General - Gen.

The Supreme Commander of the entire Black Cross, only one man holds this rank; General Halloran. His primary focus is keeping the Black Cross going, keeping the jobs coming in and-- unofficially, maintaining order on the Frontier of Federation space.
